The Project:

Fontano’s is a Chicago institution built on one thing: doing the sandwich the right way, every time. Since opening in 1960—originally at 1058 W. Polk St. in Little Italy—word spread quickly about the subs being made in the back room, and the reputation never stopped growing. Over the years, Fontano’s earned some serious hometown (and national) credibility, including recognition from Chicago Sun-Times food critic Pat Bruno, who called it “a serious sub shop,” and Zagat’s 2012 nod as “The Best Sandwich Shop in the Nation.” With the move to 332 S. Michigan Avenue, Fontano’s continued to expand what it serves—bringing the same legendary subs alongside soups, salads, and new additions like homemade pizza, pasta, and specialty sandwiches—without losing what made people loyal in the first place. When True Productions partnered with Fontano’s, the mission was to build a website that matches that legacy: classic, confident, and unmistakably Chicago—while making it easier for customers to find them, understand what they offer, and keep coming back. The site needed to tell the story, highlight the credibility, and bring the menu to life in a way that feels modern without feeling “corporate.” The finished website puts Fontano’s history and reputation front and center, while supporting what matters most day-to-day: a clear experience for hungry customers who want to know what to order, where to go, and what’s new. It’s a digital home for a brand that’s been earning loyalty for decades—and is still serving the city like it always has.
